Tractor Registration

TRACTOR REGISTRATION 2025/26

The Friends of Ferguson Heritage can help with registering any make of tractor to members and non-members with the DVLA, specialising in Massey-Harris, Ferguson and Massey Ferguson models.

The DVLA requires written confirmation of the year of manufacture from a registered organisation such as FoFH and will only accept documentary evidence that shows a direct link between the serial number and the registration number.

Please note that we aim to provide written confirmation within three weeks, once payment and all supporting documents are received.

Age-related numbers

A clear photograph of each side of the tractor, the serial number on the dashboard plate (or casting code if the serial plate is missing), the engine number – which must be legible (photographs are required to be retained). If you are unsure of the location of the engine number, please contact Bob Wood at the number listed below.

A covering letter stating the tractor model (TE-A, MF 35 etc), serial number and engine number e.g. TEA 12345, engine number S123456E. MF35/135 models have a date stamp on the bottom of the engine sump.

For TE-20, MF 35 and MF 100 Series models a photograph of the gearbox casting numbers located by the gearstick dipstick should be supplied.

Retention of an original registration number

A copy of the old logbook, a pre-1982 document, i.e bill of sale (must have the registration number and serial number displayed), or a copy of the entry in the County Council records, plus the same pictures as for age-related numbers.

You may be able to contact the County Council Archives Department in the area where the number was first issued to request a certified copy of the tractor entry which clearly shows the vehicle serial number, for which they will make a charge. Please note, if the serial number is not on the document, the DVLA will reject the application.

Never post an old original logbook; always send a copy which will be certified. Please send this along with any other requirements. A certified copy of the logbook will then be supplied for submission to the DVLA.

If you cannot satisfy any one of the above requirements for retaining your number, an age-related number is the only option.
